The Idea behind The Adventure Door

Welcome to the world of The Adventure Door - the place where magic meets reality. The idea for The Adventure Door series was based on my experiences as a child. I adored my grandparents and spent a lot of time with them. My Granddad was always reading the newspaper and my Nan could always be found in the kitchen. Their garden was just like Grandpa Joe and Grandma Ivy's and they really did have a huge pink rose arch, which was my grandmother's pride and joy. Granddad enjoyed his walks to the village and a lady called Mrs Hart actually lived next door. She was amazing, she could jump, run and skip even though she looked so old. I was convinced she was magic. My cousin and I used to venture through the rose arch and spend hours enjoying adventures beyond.

My Aim

Throughout The Adventure Door series I want to share some similar tales with all of you. The imagination is a most powerful tool and it's my aim for adults and children alike to take some time out and enjoy the magic of The Adventure Door.

Around the Site

If you look at the menu within the rose arch on the left you will see a number of options.

  • Click on about the book and you can read a brief outline of the story and enjoy a short preview of each book. As book one 'How it all began' and book two 'Return to Courtney bay' are joined together in a special edition. At the foot of that page there are pictures for you to look at containing all the images that either appear in the book or are mentioned in it. Oh and don't forget to look out for a special surprise on that page when you move your mouse over the underlined words.

  • If you click on meet the characters you can do just that. On that page there is a short introduction to each main character and best of all you can download and print them for you to colour in just how you want them. That means that you can have your favourite character from The Adventure Door on your very own bedroom wall.

  • If you want to know a bit more about me then go to meet the author. On that page you can find out a little about what I do and also about my good friend Joanne who provided all the beautiful illustrations you will find both in the book and on this site.

  • Finally there's the contact and buy page. Here you will find a form that you can complete and send to me if there's anything you would like to ask or if you have read the book, why not tell me about it? Who was your favourite character or maybe what was your favourite bit? Who knows your comments may even appear on the site. Or why not email me your Adventure Door characters once you have coloured them in, I'd love to see them. Don't forget to include your name, age and where you're from. If you haven't read the book yet and would like to, this page gives you information on how you can buy a copy.

Causes close to my Heart

A donation from every book sold will go to Treetops School, a fabulous school in Grays, Essex for children with special needs and also to NICU, the special care baby unit at Basildon hospital in Essex.

What's next?

On the right hand side of the site you will see my forthcoming titles, the books I am working on at the minute and a few lines about them. There's 'Where big cats sleep' the sequel in The Adventure Door series to 'How it all began' and 'Return to Courtney Bay'. I haven't forgotten the adults either, as 'The face in the shadows' is for you.

I truly hope you enjoy reading my books as much as I have enjoyed writing them.
